Reflecting upon ‘what I did not want’ with regard to my career meant that I had to BREAK FREE from my current job at the time.
But the reality check was that we still had two kids to get through university. ROADBLOCK!
And will we have enough money to cover our monthly living expenses? ROADBLOCK!
Ironically the number one reason why I wanted to leave my work environment was that the business was ONLY about making money, but my main reason for not being able to leave my job was not having enough MONEY!
In retrospect, the solutions seem quite simple, but at the time it felt like Mount Everest!
However, once you are clear on what’s holding you back, you can start figuring out how to overcome the obstacles. What worked for me was breaking them down into bite sizes that made sense to me.
These three ‘simplified’ strategies helped us solve our MONEY challenge:
• Finding alternative funding for university such as a student loan or a bursary.
• Building a nest egg by squirreling away a monthly sum into a separate savings account.
• COVID-19 and lockdown taught us that we could get by with much less, helping us to cut our expenses significantly.
Take that first step to face the reality of your roadblocks. Then, break down your new year strategy into bite-size actions to overcome them!
